Book Cents first online book discussion
OK, we’ll try and break the new site in right. The first book we’ll have an online discussion about is William Makepeace Thackeray’s Vanity Fair.
Several things appealed about the book: it is available online (see Project Gutenberg), if you decide to buy it the list price is around $8 (see Penguin Classics or Modern Library paperback novels at your favorite bookseller), it should be available at most local libraries, and personal finances are a major plot within the novel (although that will not be a requisite for books we discuss here—just a good hook to start the discussion site).
I’ll be posing a discussion schedule in the next couple of days. I want to keep it lively, but also ‘doable’ based on everyone’s busy schedule. Hopefully we can strike that balance. Please join us in our discussion of Thackeray’s 19th century masterpiece, and stay tuned for more book discussion.
Also, we’ll post some guidelines about this website. We want people to feel like they can post their thoughts here on the books they are reading, regardless if they have anything to do with personal finances.
