Next book: The Damnation of Theron Ware
Well, I gave suggestions a week so with no input I’ll go with what I’d like. And hopefully others will want to give it a try. The Damnation of Theron Ware, by Harold Frederic, was published in 1896 and became a bestseller. The book is also known as Illumination.
Here’s a brief description from Alibris.com:
Reverend Theron Ware, a Methodist Episcopal minister in upstate New York, must examine his faith and his life as he comes in contact with a dizzying variety of people and ideas. Joyce Carol Oates, in her essay in the December 17, 1995, issue of the New York Times Book Review, noted that this book was the inspiration for Sinclair Lewis’s Main Street and Elmer Gantry.
I’ll post a schedule and resources for this book soon. It is available for free online, as well as several versions available in paperback. We’ll cover the first few chapters the week of September 20th, so grab a copy (or download it) and join in!
